Joy’s Senior Photoshoot, 10/17/2020

It has been a hot minute since I’ve updated my website. Life has been busy, with me trying to get sufficient data to graduate with my masters on time. Covid has wreaked havoc on the entire earth, and applications to cancer biology PhD programs have also kept me on my toes. Newt is doing wonderfully as always, and so have hubby and I.

However, let’s step back from the chaos of this world and move our eyes over the photos below. I had the pleasure of doing a senior dog photoshoot for my long-time friend, Shaina, this past weekend. It has been in the works for a long long time, and with Joy’s lifelong EPI, her days are numbered. She is still a happy girl, and has been fed raw, so her coat sheen has returned, and her exuberance shines through these photos. We finally set a date in stone to shoot, and I chose October because of its beautiful sunsets, and gorgeous golden hour light. We choose a park Shaina has frequented often, and it turned out to be the perfect setting.

I also had the pleasure of helping Shaina train Joy with the e collar, and give her tips on how to provide more structure in Joy’s life. The first time I met Joy in person was the day I did the photoshoot for Shaina’s guinea pigs, and this time, after all the training I’ve had Shaina give Joy throughout the months, her demeanor has improved greatly. Now, we only have a few tiny things to work on. Who says a 9 year old dog can’t learn to fix some old, ingrained, unwanted behaviors?!

I will now let the photos speak for themselves. Below are 12 of my favorite photos from the shoot. We shot for 2 hours and I ended up editing 45 photos! Since Shaina is a great friend of mine, I did not mind editing so many for her at all. And besides, this shoot means a lot to me, as it does for her. I wanted to provide the best photos I could possible to ingrain Joy in this magical moment. By the way, we also had Shaina bring her senior guinea pig, Willow, to the shoot, and I got a few adorable photos of her.
